Deeper Vilnius is now available!

As some general information was given to you about Vilnius and Lithuania in the last article that you can follow up in my blog as ‘1st- Lithuania, Vilnius’ blog. Some people might feel a bit complicated about their locations. It will be much clearer here!

Exactly, you can walk from one place to one place. Most of them are located in a walking distance. You can walk along the OLD TOWN, which is one of UNESCO World Heritage list. It is a large area full of museums, churches, shops, restaurants and houses. In the middle, you will meet the Town Hall square surely able to give you a best shot of the Old Town also. A place considered as a must pleasing every visitor is St. Anne’s church, illustrating Lithuanian art and culture by red bricks.

When you end your walk and meet the Cathedral Square and The Gediminus Castle. If you look around you will see Three Crosses on the hill as known as Tauro hill. If you are interested in hiking or want to try, it’s around 30-minute hiking to this monument and you will get the impressive view of the Old Town and Gediminus Hill or the Castle Hill as well.

Three Crosses

At the main square, you will see 3 main landmarks: Bell Tower, Vilnius Cathedral and Statue of Grand Duke Gediminus. Behind the statue is the palace of Grand Dukes of Lithuania, where you can find out Lithuania’s history. Factually, the main square as known as Cathedral square is a place for a lot of festival to be held there because Lithuanians from the new town or tourists from the city centre street, the Old Town, and the district of Uzupis can come here easily by walking or bus as they are convenient with.

There is something called ‘a magical wish’ happening here as a special red tile called ‘The Stebuklas tile’ between the Bell Tower and Cathedral. Lithuanian people believe that if you want a miracle, you just stay in that tile, close you eyes and say your wish, turn yourself around clockwise for 3 times. The reason why they believe is this tile is a spot of the end of the human chain of Lithuanians, Latvians, and Estonians. They held their hands for the Baltic Way, approximately 2 million people and its length was 370 miles to make a message of their own freedom to their Soviet government in 1989. Actually, this tile is a symbol of hope nowadays.

For one of the most beautiful cathedral in the world, Vilnius Cathedral, nothing can explain its magnificence. Some locals say that it covers many secrets behind the charm. Its full name is the Cathedral of St Stanislav and St Vladislav. It was first built as the wooden cathedral in 1387. A lot of prominent power in Lithuania used this place as for many different occasions. It had been reconstructed and deconstructed for many centuries before the last reconsecration in 1989, and finally publicly opened for visitors to see as one of Lithuania’s masterpieces in nowadays.

Vilnius Cathedral

This is all the Landmark that you should not miss any of them when your plan is this capital!

Surely updated in the next week with the breathtaking castle in Lithuania!

Do you know Baltic sea?

Do you know Baltic states?

Do you know Baltic countries?

Have you ever been in Baltic countries?

Some might say yes or no according to how much they can realize when they think of the world map.

Don’t worry, this page is here to make all readers say yes!

It was born to give more information about Baltic countries: Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

So it is going to make you interesting more about these three countries.

My first mark on this page*

This page is written in English by a Thai second-year journalism student at Thammasat University for JM202, so the places or contents in here will be chiefly based on Thai people’s view in Thailand. For any errors or comment about grammar or any information here, you can contact to edit via

A place you have barely heard about it, Lithuania.

Have you ever heard about Lithuania? Most Thais say NO. Have you ever heard about Baltic sea? They still say NO. It is common that many Thai people do not know this country as a place for traveling because it is not a famous country and a popular destination like France, Germany, or Italy for them. So now it comes a time for them to recognize it as one of their to-go lists!

LTU as a yellow area

Lithuania is a country member of EU located near Baltic sea, Belarus, Latvia and Poland. It has a long history with Baltic states (Latvia and Estonia) and Soviet Union or Russia in nowadays. Its capital is Vilnius which can pronounce differently according to Lithuanian grammar. A-must visits in Vilnius are Vilnius Old Town, Cathedral Square, Castle Hill, National Museum, TV Tower and Green Lake. Actually Vilnius is a place that you can visit all kinds of traveling.

If you want to see somewhere ancient and traditional, take walk along the Old Town.

If you want to know more about its history, National Museum is the best choice.

If you want to see all the city from the top views, go to Castle Hill and TV Tower.

If you want to go to its landmark with magical wish, Cathedral Square is your answer.

If you want some fresh air, Green Lake is a good idea.

views vn unwrittenoldtown vn unwrittenAnd how to get there is not a hard step for any Thais. Even though there is no underground in Vilnius. People there use bus and trolley bus instead. You can use ‘Trafi’ application to help you reach anywhere by using your Location Services on your smart phones. It tells you which your bus or trolley bus is and how long it takes. For its cost, you should have E-ticket or Vilniečio kortelė for more convenience which can be bought at any Narvesen or shops having its symbol at front. Or should you have a heavy pocket  and dislike this complication, you can use taxis and for foreigners like us, we should select the safest choice. The application ‘eTAKSI’ is easy to use as well since it will tell the name of drivers, the number, colors of cars and time for waiting.

Another thing you should not miss there is traditional dishes! Lithuanian cuisine completely differs from Thai dishes and many of Asian food because most of them are cooked with potatoes and no spicy taste but tasteful in its style. Some of them are here. They are called ‘Cepelinai’, ‘Šaltibarščiai’, ‘Balandėliai’, and ‘Gira’

Once you are there you should not miss these dishes! Because some foreigners dislike them but some really appreciate them, so one day you are there, you will be able to decide which side you are! However, It is undeniable that when you are there and you think that Thai foods are more delicious but one day you go back to Thailand and you think about their dishes, your tongue will miss them again.

Schengen Visa is needed for legal access to this country. And in Thailand, there is no the embassy of Lithuania, but you can go to the German embassy in Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Phuket as a representative. At this stage you need book your queue and submit your visa form online via

For flights from Thailand to Lithuania, you need to accept that you will have connecting flight from other countries before Vilnius because there are not many airlines flying to Vilnius International Airport from other continents. Mostly they are from European countries, Ukraine and Russia because if European people want to come to Lithuania, bus or cars for them are easier and cheaper than airplanes. There will be some groups of people who need to fly instead if the distance are too long to save their time. Thus, if you want to go from Thailand, you can select the airlines such as Finnair, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Aeroflot or SAS. For those who prefer Thai Airways, you should check on the website because it is not available everyday like others recommended above.

These are just a beginning of Baltic countries, 3 countries from the rest of the world.

STAY TUNED to get more places on your bucket lists!
